Petition To Stop The National Speed Limit Being Dropped To 50mph.28-04-09 You may have heard recently that the govenrment have an intention to
drop the national speed limit to 50mph. The new speed limit would be enforced
using average speed camera equipment or SPECS. These cameras use number
plate recognition so can trace a cars movements wherever they are used
in the UK. Many feel that this is just a further way to collect revenue. By forcing drivers to drive at slow speeds where there is no real danger they will soon become frustrated and then more than likely drive over the speed limit and incur a speeding fine. Some might say that the chancellor has already done his calculations of how many drivers they can catch over the limit and the figure must have been big enough to warrant the risk of losing votes. Here are one drivers comments........... Every day I look at this shower that's in power and think they can't come up with something more stupid, and they always surprise me.... To me the road safety arguement doesn't hold any water at all - i've been all over the world and British driving is (or at least used to be) some of the safest in the world, however in my opinion since cameras sprouted up all over the place and they stopped spending money on fixing the roads it's got more dangerous because people are no longer paying attention to driving and are staring at their speedos all the time not wanting to get flashed or avoiding potholes so they don't wreck their cars. I now know why I emigrated..... TB There is a petition regarding this matter and UK citizens can sign it online. You can sign the petition here. : http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/noNSLreduction/
